Good advice, Kristina--thanks for posting this! There are good resources for writing, too, such as a tutorial on formatting papers in APA style: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reFXrhdvnmw

Kristina, I think it's great that we have Facebook page now. All those timely facts about things like the add-drop period will appear on our Facebook newsfeeds, no effort required!

Thanks for that suggestion, Paul. I'm still working on blowing it up, by the way--I can make a bigger one but it still doesn't make all the words legible, and the larger image gets harder to post. This has given me ideas for how to arrange the text next time I do this so that it's easier to copy either all the hope or all the fears at once.

That's so interesting, Paul. Reflecting on my own experience completing an undergraduate degree, I would say that the value of my friends equals or exceeds the value of the grades I got. The friends you make in college also tend to be very durable relationships, I find. Coming up on our 25th reunion, my classmates and I probably care as much about each other now as we did five years after we graduated.

In my experiment in MC100 to have students write about their college goals (in the hopes of getting them to recognize the need for planning and effort) I regularly saw papers that cited making good friends higher than making good grades.

This looks very interesting, but is there a way to blow it up? Even when enlarge the type the fainter words remain illegible.

I feel like I just want to give you all a great big hug. Everyone seems so earnest about wanting to do well, and there are lots of fears about failing. Success in your classes is all about showing up and turning in your work on time. Also, please remember that we're on your side. If you have class material that you can't understand, please drop in to see your instructor, or ask for help at Academic Services. Best wishes to all of you!

What a great way to use YouTube! I've pushed this to our Academic and Career Advising folks at KSC. They're an open minded and willing group who are always seeking new ways to reach students. This is a simple yet effective way to do just that.
