Textbook refunds, and lots of good free help

I’ve been so busy with actual in-person work with students I haven’t had time to blog much this week…which is great! It’s nice to have the school year off to a good start and see the faces that go with all those names I’ve been seeing all summer.

For now, I’ll just note a few things going on over the next week on campus.

Today, 9/12, is the last day for textbook refunds at the bookstore here on the Rindge campus.

Safe Space training for students begins on Wednesday 9/17.  I just completed the Safe Space training for faculty/staff and highly recommend the program. It’s a concrete–and fun–way to build a more congenial campus for all of us, straight or gay.

Next week, peer tutoring begins (this is free help from other experienced and trained student tutors who are accomplished in a certain course or major). Pick up a tutoring schedule at the Academic Services Center on the library main floor, or see flyers posted around campus.

Also next week, my drop-in writing help hours will start. Any student can come to the Academic Services Center between 3:30 and 4:30 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Friday for help with writing assignments–I’ll work with you at any stage in the writing process, from brainstorming a topic, to polishing a final draft, to citations.

Deb Strickland here in the ASC does drop-in math help too, from 4:30 to 6:30 Monday through Thursday. Not only is Deb an experienced and able mathematics teacher, she actually likes math and helping students succeed in their courses.

And I bet everyone on campus knows about the services offered at the Peter C. Wensberg Writing Center–they do a great job of getting the message out there. They have both student and faculty tutors who can help you in any stage in the writing process. You can call or email them to make an appointment.

Have a good weekend, everyone.
